Sometime last week, a particular thought kept ringing in my head and I thought it a good lesson to share. I had the opportunity of being an encouragement to a friend when this thought came to my head; "What or who you encourage, you know more about".
If you really want to know more about people, just show you care. Remember John Maxwell's quote that says, "people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care". Until you begin showing genuine interest in people, you are likely to remain an acquaintance for life! Guess what? It's the same even with things like subjects, topics of interest. You can never get a Master's degree or PhD in a subject you are not prepared to devote time and attention to. What you pick interest in, give attention to, and perhaps devote to is what you eventually know more about and most likely eventually become a master in.
I remember when I was in secondary school and many of my classmates feared mathematics as a subject. One of our maths teacher came in one day and voiced out a statement I will never forget all my life. He said, "if you hate the teacher of any subject, you will never come to love the subject". Since then, it hit me, it's sometimes not about the subject but the teacher of the subject. Take a flash back at the days you were in school, did you excel in the subjects/courses you hated the teacher passionately? I am sure in most cases, your answer would be either a 'No' or 'Average'. If you encourage the teacher to teach you, he teaches his best and eventually you become a master in the subject and sooner or later, you will have no need of the teacher any more.

What is that thing you have been struggling to come to terms with lately? Your boss at work? That course at school? That new operating system at the office? Your girlfriend or boyfriend;wife or husband? May I suggest you choose to start giving more attention to 'loving' these things; start encouraging their place and role in your life. Quit frowning at every sight of them. I assure you, your attitude towards these things would determing how you measure up in or with them. If you are really keen to make things work, let your attitude be one that encourages them.
Just a lesson I thought to share. Thanks for reading.

True lesson. Attitude an the way we approach the challenges we face is a step in the right direction to conquer
ReplyDeleteYes o! May God help us and give us the grace to always maintain a good attitude towards people and the things in our lives. Thank you Sis.
DeleteI can definitely relate to this post concerning my work and my thirst for God. The more we draw near, He appears closer. The more we overcome the fear of using some tools at work, the better we would be at them. Beautiful post. Thank you, LDP.
ReplyDeleteWow! I particularly love what you brought our attention to there... You know I never thought about it that way? Hmmm... the more interest we have in the knowledge of God, the more of Him we get to know. WOW! Thank you so much, Jay. What insight!
DeleteSimple but rings deep! With people, we sometimes get carried away with trying to "help" them fix the troubles in their lives that we forget to show genuine concern then get mad when they don't "appreciate" our efforts.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the reminder, God bless you
Amen! Hmm.. I caught that. How many times have I tried to do that? I often eventually lose people when I try to fix them but when I show genuine care, we often get close than I anticipated. Bless you Sis.
DeleteLol. for me its contradictory. In secondary school, like other students I didn't like my Physics teacher cos he was too pompous. Little wonder I sat for Physics twice in WAEC. But in higher institution I initially didn't like my Taxation/Valuation lecturer too, until we all saw the man's genuine love for his students... Guess what? He made the course easier than we thought.
ReplyDeleteMost teachers appear difficult, because they genuinely want to make sure they get all students to understand what they are trying to pass across. Truth is, if students come to this understanding and stop hating on them, the knowledge will find an easy path/medium to get to them as you ascertained in the second example. Thank you sir.
DeleteYou are right. This reminds me of my secondary school days. I loved all my teachers sha.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting again Atilola. I appreciate you :)
DeleteYou love all your teachers, no wonder you're a very bright student. I sure know you are... dont ask me how. lol
This piece has worked for me and it is very very true. I had a very annoying boss who i don't consider to be annoying anymore. I just gave her attention and now we have a good relationship.
ReplyDeleteGood job LDP.
I have responded to your comment on my blog.
Thank you very much Atoskin. I am still reveling your love story. Almost similar to mine. Read it yet?
DeleteI am happy to hear you have a good relationship with your boss now. I am sure you'd be finding your office a fun place to work than ever now right?
Yes i have and it is very similar to mine. What else do we have in common?
DeleteInteresting... Did you have this worry about physical attraction before u guys met? I had that. lol. What else we have in common... erm? We're both born again (I guess). Where is he BTW?
DeleteSomeone whose love story is similar to LDP's? Gotta go check it ASAP. Some holy gist ;)
DeleteHahah... Chinazar, so you too love Love this much? lol
DeleteOh yea. I can def relate. I used to hate math so bad then i got a friend who encouraged me to spend more time practicing. I still don't love math *coversfcae* but we have a better relationship :-)
ReplyDeletelol.. at least you and maths have a better relationship than when you used to hate it. lol

ReplyDeletethanks for sharing
Thanks Aloted! Blessings :)
DeleteVery Very true, I love that you relate an emotion most of us know too well with the other aspects of our lives. Tested and trusted.....it is all in the attitude! Keep doing your thing LDP
ReplyDeleteHmm... Yes! Very important, because our attitude determines our altitude! Thank you very much for taking out time :)
DeleteGreat post, funny I was going to discuss on something running along a similar theme on my blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat I have learnt so far in my life is that those things we usually think are too tough for us, when we face them head on and determine to, like you said, love them, we excel in them. A perfect example is always schoolwork. Moving on with the 'right attitude' has helped me so far in my studies.
......And at the end of every challenge, when we do excel, we can scream!!!"
Thank you for stopping by my blog and for commenting and also for following...Thank you!!!
DeleteThank you for posting again, AY. I appreciate you.
DeleteI totally agree with you. Determination is an antidote to difficulties. May God's grace be sufficient for us to be determined through every challenge that may come our way.
Blessings to you :)
chai! I liked my economics teacher so much that i excelled...even when i hated economics....as for my maths teacher...lol....and i didnt do good either...now i see y
ReplyDeleteLOL... Wetin do maths teacher? U no like am? lol
DeleteI'm glad you now see why. You crack me up always! lol
Amazing article. Honestly i hated my maths teacher and it affected me back in high school. I'm inspired by the thought of giving people quality time cos people never confide or open up to you till they know how much you care.
ReplyDeleteI tell you, Lynn. Nothing beats showing genuine concern and care... Its the price for a great friendship often times.
DeleteI was nodding my head in agreement while I read, but when I stumbled on "What is that thing you have been struggling to come in terms with lately? Your boss at work?...." my smiling nod turned to a blank expression...lol.
ReplyDeleteI guess its harder to swallow when the pill is to go into our mouths....but I guess I have to learn to do that (embrace my boss for who she is, bad behavious and all)...
Good FFT
Aww... Its a good thing to be convicted and I am sure God will give you grace ma to do the right thing henceforth... God will make the place a sweet environment for you and you will start finding favour in her sight in Jesus' name. When will you post again ma? lol. How is baby?
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA!!!!LDP, dont make me older than I am with all this ma o....wud definitely post soon, and baby is great
DeleteI know you are young, ma, but you are older than me jare. lol | That, I cannot take for granted. Even though I live overseas, I am still very cultured... Looking forward to your post ma. Regards to baby o! Blessings :)
DeleteI can really recall how I really hated maths when in college with this your post. But later on, I later found out that I was always relating well with the teachers that handle the subjects I was really good at. I always saw that maths teacher as complex as the mathematical problems he solved on the board.
ReplyDeleteAttitude indeed goes a long way in shaping our performances. This is one inspiring post, brother.
Sir, the point sir, you made sir was very informative sir. God bless you sir... Sir.....sir.
ReplyDeleteLol... Have I made my point?
LOL... I get your point ma, but just that I was brought up that way to use 'Sir or Ma' for those older than I am and I guess you are - moreover you are a married woman and I am learning alot at your feet. Please, don't take it as an offense. I'm just being me.
Delete*sigh*.... Mo ti gbo. Btw, we're practically mates; it's just that I'm married n ure not.
ReplyDeleteLMAO....In the midst of her, it is well!
DeleteLol... Don't mind me.
DeleteLOL... you have automatically become a senior with the married status jor.
Delete@HoneyDame, Thank you ma. You see me so? She wont let me be me. haha
*High five, LDP, for this post*
ReplyDeleteThe strangest thing is I was thinking about this this past week, i.e. how the teacher makes a HUGE difference in whether you take an interest in a subject or not. You're very right. The subjects I loved had more to do with the teachers than the subject itself. It really made a difference. I also think that focusing on the areas you are interested in will help you not only master them, but in the process, you'll learn more about your own self. That change of attitude though is necessary. God bless you for sharing this.
I remember some courses that i failed in University. It was cos i didn't like the lecturers. Liking them always makes the difference.
DeleteIt sure does... it's made many fail in life.
Delete'Hate the teacher, fail the subject' simple but yet deep truth. Thanks for the reminder. More blessings :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me. I know i need to do this for my organization now. No matter what, I'll develop that love. Thanks bro.
DeleteYes o! You can do it, Sis!
